Brad Lidge recently said he felt close to getting to where he needed to be.Tonight's 5-4 win over the Nationals might have put Lidge over the top.
Lidge's ninth was clean as a whistle, striking out two on 17 pitches (10 for strikes) and allowing zero hits. Most impressively, Lidge whiffed a tough customer in Nick Johnson to end the game. The slider was electric, the fastball hat bite and the pitcher was confident and committed.
To us, it's really the biggest news on the field.
Off the field, it's all about Brett Myers (rightful) decision to have surgery for a torn hip labrum. There will be much speculation on what the Phils will do to fill Myers' spot in the rotation - whether it be an internal candidate or someone not currently on the roster. We'll offer our take, as well as what others are suggesting shortly.
