Goodbye Reggie Brown

Remember the days when Reggie Brown was going to be an impact wide receiver?

The days of Brown being considered an emerging talent are long gone, and now so is his tenure in Philadelphia. The former Georgia standout, a 2005 draft choice, was traded to Tampa Bay for a 2011 sixth round pick.

How did Brown go from promising offensive weapon to the team's sixth wideout? You won't hear from Andy Reid, whose philosophy is to offer varying degrees of platitudes to a departing player, depending on their contribution. The closest Reid will ever get to publicly ripping a player was forcing George Hegamin (remember him?) to push a blocking sled - with Reid on board - at the end of one of Reid's first practices as Eagles coach.

Other than that, Reid's response to a player's departure ranges from "He's a good football player. We wish him well" to "Brian is a franchise icon."

Back to Brown. Our take is that Reid simply grew dissatisfied with him somewhere along the line, buying him a spot in the doghouse. The signing of Kevin Curtis and later the emergence of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin made sure Brown never got out of that doghouse.
