Reports Have Jordan On the Way Out

The Inquirer's Kate Fagan, who hasn't been shy in calling out Eddie Jordan in her first year on the beat, cites multiple sources in a piece this morning that says Jordan will be ex-Sixers coach before too long.

Team President and GM Ed Stefanski will also be "seriously" evaluated, according to Fagan.

We were among those in the minority when Jordan was hired as believing he was a decent choice. He had an established reputation as an offensive guru and took the Wizards to the playoffs for four years - no small feat. It hasn't worked out at all in Philadelphia, however, as Jordan has managed to lose the confidence of both the players and front office.

With enthusiasm for the franchise already down the drain (remind you of the early 90s?), it wouldn't be surprising if Jordan is canned before this season is up. If ownership is looking to clear the air with the fans that are left, getting rid of Jordan sooner rather than later would be a good step.

Deciding Stefanski's fate will be far more difficult, in our view. Ultimately, Stefanski will (and should) be held responsible for hiring Jordan in the first place. The fact that Jordan's hiring came at the end of an elongated, research-intensive process will not help his case. Nor will the max contract awarded to Elton Brand when the team had an enormous amount of salary cap space.
Helping Stefanski will be some of the smart personnel moves he's made, among them the trading of Kyle Korver (cleared cap space for Brand's eventual signing), the drafting of Marreese Speights and Jrue Holiday. We'll also count the Feb. 19 trade of a second round pick, Royal Ivey and Primoz Prezec to Milwaukee for Jodie Meeks and Francisco Elson as a positive move, as the Sixers ended up with the one player with potential (Meeks) in the deal.
